Designing Morpheus
by: Joshua Davidson on January 2nd, 2009
Welcome to the future of theme park fan sites on the internet. I am proud to introduce if you are reading this Morpheus! Right now, I am writing this about a month or so before opening so hopefully this will all be factual in the end! So where to begin. This editorial is a kind of an behind the scenes look on this site design and how the features came to be. So lets begin with the look. I listened to the people that hated what they called the “puke” green even though I liked it, so I reversed the colors! The green is now the site color, and the blue has became the background! But with a added twist of blending in a darker to lighter blue to add a little “taste” to the background. I think it adds a nice touch. From there we aim towards the home page. Now I wanted to condense the original home page but deliver the same amount of content. So the answer was simple, with a little rearranging, we now have the news on the left, the park information on the bottom, and a nice random-photo on the top right.
Now that deleted the operational hours and special events, or did it! On the bottom of every page, we now feature the hours to the park and special events happening! So no more forgetting or needing to go to Six Flags own website! But that is truthfully the main information about the site design, and the boring stuff with a cleaner code and stuff. But now we can get into the content. We have brought ride pages finally into the site as well as we now partnered with FlyinPhil to have aerial photographs of every roller coaster! We also now feature a video of every roller coaster as well as a new commenting system! You can now leave a review of your favorite attraction and you never know; Six Flags does like to read the site! Your review could be read!
Speaking of writing reviews, you can now submit editorials and videos as well! So for all you writers with opinions or video editors, your time is now here to shine! I added this feature to show that this site is more then just its staff, it is all the members that make this site! And now the site is even more interactive then ever before! Now we also have a other VERY exciting feature I would love to introduce! The chat room! I knew how many people wanted this feature, and we made it happened (with a special thanks to our pal Paul from CSFOntheWeb.com!). The chat is going to be introduced on Opening Day Eve! So make sure to be there! So that is your little behind the scenes look of this exciting new site design for the entire Great Adventure community! We have so much content, so make sure to have fun looking around and stop by the forums!
