Meet the GhoulMaster
by: Joshua Davidson on March 13th, 2009
Q. Is there a story to how you became the "ghoulmaster" during Fright Fest?
I
started working at Fright Fest back in 1999. I was a zombie in the
Brutal Planet walk-thru attraction. (SIDENOTE: If anyone has pics of
the Brutal Planet graveyard that was under the log flume, I might be in
them, and I'd love to see those!) Anyway, over the next few years I
developed the character. Started adding more each year. The platform
boots, contacts, top hat etc. I worked a couple years in Western, then
in Area 6 walk-thru- infact that's when I started doing "the tongue". I
just randomly did it to make some people laugh for a picture.
Obviously, it was a hit...
Q. When did you become the GhoulMaster and how did you get the job?
Well,
I started the whole trend of Fright Fest "ghouls" making a character
myspace page. At Fright Fest- guests constantly asked for my e-mail
address/phone number- and ofcourse we are not allowed to give out that
information. So I made a page and needed a character name- Ghoulmaster?
I wasn't sure if it was corny or what- but within a day I had people at
the park calling out "Ghoulmaster!!". It caught on quick, and just
seemed to work.
Q. Do you have any other professions outside of being the ghoulmaster?
Outside
of the Ghoulmaster, I am...get ready for this- a professional Michael
Jackson impersonator- no joke. I have met the real King of Pop several
times, and been a guest at Neverland Ranch a couple times. I am also a
videographer/editor. Also do make-up, photography, and graphic design.
All of my "professions" are the things I love the most.
Q. What is your personal favorite part about Fright Fest?
Halloween
has always been my holiday. Ever since I was little I would have to go
ALL OUT on my costumes- and win every contest I entered. So being
around people that share that same love for Halloween is my favorite
thing. Meeting guests that come say hi to me every year, and get a
picture with me every year means alot to me. Knowing that I am a small
part of their Halloween tradition.
Q. Was requested to ask you, how long is your tounge? LOL.
Hmm... I don't have an official measurement on that. Where would I start measuring!?
Q. What do you like to do with your free time?
I
love just being with close friends that totally "get" me, that I can
just be myself around. I like watching other artists and performers and
becoming inspired by them. I love taking pictures, shopping, traveling.
I am going to London this summer to see Michael Jackson's final UK
concerts. (just had to throw that in haha)
Q. A other requested question from the members of the site! Are you related to wretchED?
No, I am not related to WretchEd.
Q. How long did it take you to learn the dance for the a-wake-ening.
Well,
to be honest I already knew it. I've been performing as Michael Jackson
for over 10 years- so knowing the Thriller dance was natural. I
probably taught it to myself back when I was 8 or 9- so to still be
doing it now in front of thousands of people is like a dream come true.
Q.
I noticed you got your hair cut off during Fright Fest, is that
just to be into character or was there a other reason to that?
If
your talking about shaving the sides of my head- I just like to change
things up a little bit every year- so I thought the partially bald head
would be interesting.
Q. Anything you wish to add that we didn't mention?
I
just want to thank everyone that has ever complimented me or shown
their love in any way at the park. I can't say "thanks" or break
character- but just know that it really means alot to me. Also all the
online fans that have shown so much love through videos, artwork,
pictures, and messages- it made it all worthwhile.
Special thanks to the GhoulMaster himself showing us a bit about him and his life to the Great Adventure community! Cheers for Fright Fest 2009!
