Won't
Get Fooled Again
By Peyton Ebbeson, Webmaster, Great Adventure Source
10/01/2004 - We’ve been talking about it for
years. We always dreamed and imagined what it would be like. We
were all so sure we knew where it would be. We all were dead wrong!
I
can’t tell you how many times the idea of a new themed section
to the park has been brought up. The truth is, however, that no
one ever believed it was possible. This week, Six Flags has pulled
out all the stops as they announced not only a new coaster that
will break the world record for speed and height, but they announced
the addition of a whole new themed section to the park. It’s
not even a minor theme. This new section will be themed to a jungle.
“The Golden Kingdom” is the new section we’ve
all been hoping for.
Why the big shock? Well, it’s actually quite
simple, really. You could ask any member of the forums on this site,
“if there were to be a new section added, where would it be?”
99.9% of them would say next to the lake, behind Medusa and Saw
Mill Log Flume. The Golden Kingdom will happen to be located on
the other side of Frontier Adventures, next to Rolling Thunder in
the former location of Bugs Bunny Land and the season pass parking
lot.
Okay, so they got us. That’s not all, though.
No one in their right minds would have thought that of all the years
to add a new section, it would be 2005, the year of Kingda Ka, the
world record breaking roller coaster from Intamin. That is enough
to satisfy everyone’s needs, yet we’re getting a whole
new section.
Now, in all fairness, this isn’t going to
equal the size of Frontier Adventure or anything like that, but
it’s still pretty amazing. While the cornerstone of this 11
acre oasis will be Kingda Ka, there will also be a children’s
area featuring 5 themed attractions, 4 food stands, 3 merchandise
stands, wild animal exhibits and an all new, state of the art, 1000
seat arena that will be home to “Temple of the Tiger”,
an all new show featuring massive Bengal tigers and cubs.
Maybe
it’s just me, but this almost sounds like Disney World. That’s
right, folks, Six Flags has positioned one of its flagship parks
to be a destination for people around the world. They are adding
all this, and, a world class, record breaking coaster. That right
there is why we all were fooled. It’s clear that we have underestimated
the friendly giant. Six Flags Great Adventure, as we know it, will
be gone forever when the gates close on October 31. When they open
once again in April 2005, you will enter a world-class theme park;
a park that puts time and money into itself to get something in
return; a park with a mythical jungle with ancient artifacts and
lush, exotic landscape, with stone pathways and vine archways; a
park with the “Golden Kingdom”.
It’s clear now. For years we’ve been
going crazy about how the park is in such disrepair. We said the
management didn’t care about its guests. Well they’ve
cleaned themselves up this season and next season will prove that
they want to be recognized. We won’t underestimate them again.
Nope, we won’t get fooled again!
