At the heart of the park is the Fantasy Forest. Running from the Big Wheel to the Carousel, the area was originally known as Dream Street, and featured some of the original park attractions and fantasy architecture. The Big Wheel (originally known as the Giant Wheel) served as the parks visual centerpiece to draw guests in as the (then) tallest ride in the park. Also in Fantasy Forest is the Flying Wave, the perennially popular swing ride, and the Carousel, which has been delighting riders for over 100 years. These attractions along with Houdini's Great Escape which was added in 1999 have offered families great times and great memories together.
Fantasy Forest also is home to two of the parks largest restaurants, which also are original to the park. The Character Cafe was originally known as the Yum Yum Palace and was designed to look like a giant ice cream sundae. At the other end is Granny's, originally known as the Gingerbread Fancy, which offers good old fashioned fried chicken in a graceful and elegant setting. The pathway through the center is planted with colorful flowers which change with the seasons, and the path is lined with colorful banners and is lit by old fashioned streetlights. |
