Batman was back in normal operation yesterday.

It is actually still closed. From the Associated Press:

Ga. ride that killed teen to remain closed

AUSTELL, Ga. (AP) Georgia officials ordered a popular roller coaster that hit and killed a teenager over the weekend to remain closed Monday.

Asia LeeShawn Ferguson IV of Columbia, S.C., died Saturday at Six Flags Over Georgia after police said he hopped two fences and wandered into a restricted area where he was decapitated by the Batman roller coaster.

Park officials had expected to reopen the ride Monday, but the Georgia Department of Labor took it out of service while inspectors conduct a preliminary investigation that could take several days, spokesman Charlie Schroder said. The agency is responsible for inspecting amusement park rides.

"Once we're satisfied the ride can operate safely, it will return to operation," he said.

The park had closed the ride out of respect for Ferguson's family. No one else was hurt.

Police were investigating reports from witnesses who said the Ferguson jumped the fences to retrieve a hat he lost while riding the coaster, according to Cobb County Sgt. Dana Pierce.

A park spokeswoman said Ferguson scaled two 6-foot fences and passed signs that said the restricted area was both off-limits and dangerous.

Ferguson and his parents were at the park with a group from the Oakey Spring Baptist Church near Springfield, S.C.

The ride operates fine, when there isn't a kid in the restricted area. Put barbed wire on the top of the fences and ta-da, problem solved.

^ A new report released in Atlanta said he left to eat lunch with his friends out of the park and jumped the fence instead of going through the entrance. Ridiculous.

Actually, that isn't real barbed wire. If you notice on our Batman, it's theming. I think having actual barbed wire in an area where guests in line have access to is against some code somewhere. But don't hold me to that one.
All I know is that it's theming, not actual barbed wire.

This entire thing is his fault. Six Flags should actually decide NOT to settle out in court over this one. Fight for your right Six Flags, win the case. You did absolutely nothing wrong this time.
Like nearly all coaster-related accidents, the coaster is 100% safe. However the idiots around them are not.

If anything, this will cause a chain-wide or even industry-wide increase in safety fencing for inverted coaster danger zones. This same sort of accident has happened several times in the past, and it ALWAYS involves an inverted coaster. With any other type of coaster, the only way to get inside the train's clearance envelope is to be on or above the track, but with an inverted coaster, your head could be a good 6 feet below the track and you'd still get hit by the riders' feet. The safety standard for inverted coasters should be to have a fence around the whole perimeter AND to have a fence around each individual danger zone, that is, each area when riders' feet come within, say, 7 feet from the ground. These fences shouldn't be chain-link as those are easily climbable, they should use vertical bars like S:UF's queue line fences.

I have to disagree. At seventeen years old, you should know that two six foot fences, and a roller coaster that goes 50 mph, with people's feet hanging means don't go over the fence. While I don't think he deserved to die, his common sense was lacking.
