Would it really matter if we get that recognition? I don't think the GP would care very much and I think all they want is a nice and smooth roller coaster with comfortable (hopefully timberliner or Gerstlauer) trains.

I know I am going off topic here, but Timberliners are BY FAR the best roller coaster trains ever IMO. :offtopic:

Give RT the Texas Giant makeover it deserves. Run them side my side for once. Put one of those bad boys in reverse for FF and then maybe it would hide in the shadows of El Toro. I'm sure the GP would get a kick out of the coaster if it received a good transformation. However, if you're all for conserving our parks history, call in GCI and ask them to give it a good retracking, maybe a bit of reprofiling, and run both sides like it was intend to run. It might not be as good as Lightning Racers, but I'm sure it can get pretty close.

Actually (shameless plug for my TR), yesterday, Rolling Thunder was actually racing! There were a bunch of other great things happening in the park yesterday. It might have just been because TPR was visiting, though.

I didn't realize all those stipulations on ACE coaster classics BOO! I really don't think a retracking is necessary on Rolling thunder I honestly think we just need new trains.

AND MAGNETIC BRAKES!!!!!!! I cannot tell you how annoying it is when the train rolls into the station and your row stops two rows ahead of you!

I think Rolling Thunder deserves to be a classic. Too bad our headrests stop that from happening...

I don't believe a status makes a big difference. That's just a lable. It's possible to keep a ride from become out dated and worn out while still preserving its history and remaining a classic. Maybe a Texas Giant makeover takes things too far, but a good refurbishment, minimal reprofiling, and some new trains would do the ride some justice. It will still, without a doubt, remain a Six Flags classic.

I rode it a couple of weeks ago and it was very jerky and roughed you up a lot. New trains would definetley do some good.

I don't think the brakes are a big deal on Rolling Thunder. Maybe the new shorter trains to better take the two turns. It's not Texas Giant material as the coaster hardly changes direction. You meant the Iron Horse track treatment. I don't think it needs that type of track.

The hills at the end would be great if it was smoother. Also, give the ride a checkered flag post over the end, so it's obvious which track wins in a race. Maybe even find a way to get them to race more evenly?

I don't know what, but Rolling Thunder needs HELP. It's embarrassing how rough that coaster is, especially considering it's age. It's far too young to be this rough. Comet at Hersheypark opened in 1940, so it's over 70 years old, and it's EXTREMELY smooth and fun. Rolling Thunder is really fun when it's smooth. But right now, it's way to rough to be fun, unless you think it's fun to watch the people in front of you's necks swinging around -- which is kind of fun.

Maybe over the years Hershey has maintained the ride better? Comet is one of my favorite coasters. If Rolling Thunder was that smooth, I'd ride it a lot more often.

I agree with all of you, rolling thunder is rough. Even the Dragon coaster in playland made in the 1920s is soo much smoother. The only thing i like about it is, it gives a rare view of El Toro, behind the first big drop, it looks very intimidating how huge it is. my question is, does great adventure think its too much money to fix a wooden coaster rather than a steel coaster? thats why they avoiding it.
