You can forget anything underground gadv isn't allowed to build anything underground. They can build ditches and the two biggest ditches they have built are the wave pool and ka's footer....but anything beyond prolly 20 ft they're not allowed cause they're built on top of a huge aquifer that supplies 80% of NJ with water

A US first? A double-looping waterslide fits that bill. Just imagine 5 drop boxes being added to HH next year :D No matter what it is, its gonna be a great year for the Harbor!

Just imagine, a world class water park next to an already amazing, world class amusement park! The entire complex is starting to become a real destination.

^ imo, our Hurricane Harbor has a long way to go before I'd classify it as World Class. Aside from Tornado, it hasn't gotten anything new since it opened in 1999 (IIRC). In all my years of going to Great Adventure, I've still never been to our HH. To me, it'd be more worth it to go to the waterparks in Ocean City or Wildwood than take the drive up to Jackson. Our HH doesn't have any super unique slides that warrant me spending the day there instead of the park. These new additions will definitely help boost the waterpark's attendance, but it still needs 3-4 more big slides to rival The Boardwalk at Hershey (their biggest competition imo).

I think their biggest competition is Mountain Creek, its closer to Great Adventure than Hershey and a lot of people(the ones that I know anyway) go there.

I've been to Mountain Creek (great waterpark by the way), and it was super packed. Most of the crowds were New Yorkers.

I haven't been to Hurricane Harbor either. From what I hear, it's not enough slides for the tons of people who go there, and you have to pay to get your own inner tube, which kind of stinks. Maybe I'll go for the first time this year.

You know what I just realized? Maybe the LA Times weren't wrong. Maybe we're getting a double looping slide named Bonzai Pipeline?

From GAH:

Six Flags Great Adventure Announces Massive, Cobra-Themed Water Slide for 2012
Eye-popping, racing slide marks first of its kind in U.S.

Jackson, NJ — February 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Six Flags Great Adventure, America’s largest regional theme park, today announced the addition of King Cobra, an intense and visually-stunning, racing tube slide, opening at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Summer 2012.

King Cobra promises one of the most extreme riding experiences in the industry while also delivering great spectator appeal. Complete with bold orange, black and yellow scales to resemble a massive cobra on both the interior and exterior, this slide tower will be the first of its kind anywhere in the United States. King Cobra’s unique configuration enables two tubes to race through a circular path with twists, turns and surprises through enclosed and open sections of the slide at speeds up to 32 miles per hour. The ride’s finale features a sudden, 25-foot plunge at a 50-degree angle with riders racing until the heart-pounding finish as they appear to be swallowed by the massive mouth of the cobra.

King Cobra is manufactured by Polin, a world leader in the aquatic industry with its innovative design, manufacturing and installation of water parks in 80 countries around the globe. King Cobra marks Polin’s first major U.S. installation in the company’s 35-year history.

“We are thrilled to work with Polin on this landmark project, and are confident that King Cobra’s intense ride experience and unparalleled design will make it our most popular and entertaining attraction,” said Park President John Fitzgerald.

King Cobra is scheduled to open this summer in lieu of the Dive Bomber drop capsule. For more information, visit www.sixflags.com/greatadventure.

This is good. More capacity is exactly what the park needs.

EDIT: Oh, it turns out that we're getting this INSTEAD of the Dive Capsule....

Well good, the drop boxes never seemed really exciting and would only kill capacity on the slides they were being added to. This is something so unique and eye catching that it will actually make the park worth visiting. Now the question is, where will they put it? My guess is over by the coaster slides or by that open patch by the wave pool.

It's going in the middle of the park, next to the Volleyball beach area.

Edit: Actually, there is that big open area by the beach before you get to the Wave Pool, so probably in this area pictured.

If so, excellent placement, very visible and accesible.
