Looking through the Jackson Township Planning Board Minutes, I came across a representative for Six Flags requesting an ordinance for the park to construct a 100-acre Solar Farm on property to almost fully power the park. (And fully power it at times -- I assume in the off-season?) The location is in a wooded area, supposedly near Reed Road.

It sounds like an interesting idea, I guess the prices of solar energy has decreased to where it's worthwhile for the park to consider it.

Funny thing is I contacted the park about 6 or 7 years ago about doing an installation with my mom's company (knew a few PR people back then and they connected me through). I find it great that they are now looking at it.

Great Adventure received approval from Jackson Township on Monday night for the 100-acre Solar Field.

I wouldn't be so sure that this is happening. The plan is getting some serious opposition, primarily because it's a stupid plan. Tearing down over 18k tree's for "Environmental Reasons" is dumb. I'd also add, that understanding the limitations of solar power - The claim that even a large array could power the park is dubious at best. Anyone even remotely curious about this should read some of the articles discussing this in more depth. Including the company that is handling it. (Which has a horrendous track record)

And here we are

Four environmental groups have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to block Six Flags Great Adventure's solar farm project, according to reports.

The complaint claims the project that proposes clearing almost 20,000 trees to build a 19-acres solar farm skirts state Land Use Laws, The Asbury Park Press reports.

"You don't kill the earth to save the earth," Janet Tauro, New Jersey board chair of Clean Water Action said in a statement.

The suit was filed in state Superior Court in Toms River.

My view has always been: You should do whatever you want, on property you own. However, this is a pretty stupid plan...
