Six Flags brought the park into an age of thrills with Lightnin' Loops, two interlocking Arrow Loops and Rolling Thunder the next season. The park was made even more thrilling with the additions of new state of the art rides such as Buccaneer and Freefall. Soon, the Looney Tunes began appearing at the park with their licensing being acquired. Later on, the Six Flags chain was acquired by Time Warner. The modern roller coaster age came to the park with the addition of the Great American Scream Machine in 1989, breaking the record as the world's tallest looping roller coaster.

Time Warner soon gained control of Six Flags, cleaning up the park and making it very efficient and profitable. Theming was one of their priorities with the greatly themed attractions of Batman: The Ride, The Right Stuff, Viper, Skull Mountain, and Batman and Robin being added during their control of their parks. Each brought a unique and exciting experience to the park and helped to revitalize many parts of the park. Time Warner sold the Six Flags chain to Premier Parks in 1998, starting a new chapter.

Premier started off their control of the park with a War on Lines, adding 25 new rides, the Looney Tunes Seaport, and the world's first Floorless coaster, Medusa. Hurricane Harbor added a whole new thrill as a waterpark, opening in 2000. It has proved wildly popular since its opening and continues to be an integral part of your day at Six Flags Great Adventure. Thrills were the focus of Premier, as large coasters like Nitro, Superman, and Kingda Ka were all built, making the park popular among teenagers and thrill seekers. Unfortunately, the park fell into disrepair around the new attractions as focus on new rides took its toll on flats and even the cleanliness of the park.

A renewed focus on the park's well being came in 2005 with the addition of the Golden Kingdom, taking over the former area of Bugs Bunny Land. Theming not seen since Time Warner's days was everywhere as the forest of New Jersey transformed into a jungle, complete with a Tiger exhibit and trading posts. Anchoring the section was the world's new Tallest and Fastest roller coaster Kingda Ka. Though the ride encountered many problems and an accident, it still retains its thrill and title at 456 feet and 128mph.

The last of Premier's planned attractions was El Toro, and Intamin pre-fabricated Wooden coaster that would take the place of the defunct Viper. Control of the Six Flags chain was taken by Red Zone as Premier had created large debts and dissatisfaction among the many parks. The park was cleaned up and made more efficient under Red Zone, adding an emhpasis on families with the addition of Wiggle's World in 2007 and removal of the troublesome Batman and Robin: The Chiller at the end of the season. The park today looks ahead to the future with the addition of the new Dark Knight Coaster in 2008 and Glow in the Park parade for families. The park has gone through many changes through the years, but it always has retained the magic which made it such an unforgettable experience. From  the earliest days of Spring to the scary nights during Fright Fest, the park is a destination year round that everyone can enjoy! Adventure awaits as soon as you pass through the front gate!
