Park to add new
themed section in 2005
September 29, 2004
The Golden Kingdom, a new 11-acre,
mythical jungle domain will be added to the park in 2005. The cornerstone
of the new area will be Kingda Ka, a new hydraulic launch coaster
that will be the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.
The Golden Kingdom will also feature Balin’s Jungle Land, an
elaborate, new children’s area as well as Temple of the Tiger,
a massive, new educational tiger exhibit and three new shops and four
new eateries. |

Power outage
hits park, leaves hundreds stranded
August 18, 2004
The park was hit with a power outage
earlier Wednesday which left hundreds of people stranded on rides
such as "Sky Ride", "Parachute Drop", "Chiller"
and others. There have been no reported injuries and all passengers
were brought down safely. For images visit WPVI-TV
Philadelphia. |
Bugs Bunny Land
will cease operation
August 18, 2004
It has been reported that Bugs Bunny
Land, one of two areas in the park designed for kids, will shut down
on Labor Day, September 6. This is to allow construction to progress
for "an exciting new attraction in 2005". There is no official
word on whether or not the section will re-open, but it is suggested
that at least part of the area will be used for the entrance to the
new coaster. |

Nitro breaks
down on lift hill
June 20, 2004
[WPVI TV 6] - There was nothing amusing
about the ride several people took at Great Adventure, when the roller
coaster they were riding got stuck. Chopper 6 flew above the Great
Adventure Amusement Park in Jackson, New Jersey after the roller coaster
malfunctioned. The Nitro Roller Coaster ride
got stuck with passengers on board. Park personnel helped the riders
off. A computer glitch is apparently to blame
for causing the break down. That glitch has since been fixed and the
Nitro is back up and running. Visit WPVI
Philadelphia for video. |

Flight queue line to help guests handle the summer heat. Installation
is set to begin at any time.

Source claims
record tallest, fastest for park's new coaster
June 13, 2004
An anoynomous source for Great Adventure
Source has claimed that the park's new roller coaster for 2005 will
break two records; world's fastest and tallest roller coaster. The
title of both fastest and tallest coaster is currently held by Top
Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point which reaches 120 miles per hour and
tops out at a height of 420 feet. The most probable type of coaster
to acheive this is an Intamin hydraulic launch rocket coaster. Nothing,
of course, is set in stone. Given the track length, however, this
current rumor holds plenty of weight. |
Park looks beautiful
as summer approaches [PU]
June 13, 2004
The first exclusive Photo Update of
the season is here and with it some great shots of the park as summer
draws closer. The biggest news is the return of the Batmobile to the
front of Batman: The Ride as well as some shots of the upgrades that
have taken place over the off season.

Few details
revealed about new coaster, Rolling Thunder to get new neighbor
June 07, 2004
The Jackson Township planning board
held its monthly meeting on Monday night. One issue discussed was
a new coaster for Great Adventure. As a result, several details about
next season's big attraction were revealed. The track length will
be 2,480 feet and the location will be in Fronter Adventures just
next to Rolling Thunder. In order to make room for the new attraction,
the exit road to the Safari will be moved back 30 feet as well as
the pet kennel. The coaster will be at least partially built in the
parking lot next to Rolling Thunder. The ride was approved by the
board, so as soon as the proper permits are filed, construction can
begin. The board also approved a 30 foot by 60 foot prefabricated
building for Tiger Island which will most likely be located in Lakefront. |
Winter Lights
will not return
June 07, 2004
Winter Lights, the holiday light attraction
at Six Flags Great Adventure will not return for 2004. The event started
in 2002 and was so popular that it was continued the next year. However,
sales last season did not meet park officials' expectations and as
a result, the popular event will be discontinued. |
Official confirmation
on 2005 coaster
June 03, 2004
The Jackson Township planning board
will address the topic of a new roller coaster at Six Flags Great
Adventure at their next meeting on Monday, June 7. This is official
evidence of a major attraction and the first step the park must take
towards building a new major attraction. To view the Jackson Township
planning board agenda, click

for the information. |
Two new additions
later this season?
June 01, 2004
We have two rumors about possible additions
coming later this season. Our first report comes from the Safari in
which a new attraction may be coming this summer. Apparently, in the
tiger section right before the White Bengal Tiger area with the elephant
statue there is the small fenced area with three tigers in it with
a sign that says -- "Coming Summer 2004: Tiger Island".
No word on what this might be, but we'll try and keep you updated.
Back to the theme park, we have reports of a possible Batman themed
water stunt show replacing the "Ski!" show. According to
our report, behind the entertainment building with the other boats,
there are two Batman boats. One is black and sleek and definitely
Batman's and the other is a green boat that looks like the Riddler's
boat. There is no official report about this change, but we'll keep
our eyes and ears open. |
Concerts and
water park ring in summer
May 26, 2004
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial
start of summer and Great Adventure has several great ways to help
welcome the warm weather. Two great concerts are lined up for Saturday
and Sunday nights; Lonestar on the 29th and REO Speedwagon on the
30th. The former is a mainstream country group and the latter is a
classic rock band. The show has been heavily promoted on classic rock
station 94.5 The Hawk. Additionally,
Hurricane Harbor, the separate admission water park will open its
gates for the season on Saturday. It will be open from 10:00 AM -
8:00 PM Saturday through Monday and then will close before opening
for weekends starting June 5th. Preliminary weather forecasts call
for isolated thunderstorms with mostly sunny skies and temperatures
in the high seventies. |
Batmobile back in action and park
update
May 26, 2004
The Batmobile, which was removed from
it's prime location in front of Batman: The Ride several
years ago has been spotted at the park once again. While it is not
back in its original location, it is nice to know that the prop is
still around. It was spotted from Nitro's lift hill and is reported
to be located inside the Batman Stunt Show Arena, which is opening
for this year for the first time in several seasons with an all new
stunt show. In other news, it appears that Batman: The Chiller
(blue track) has closed down for maintenance. It is expected to be
down for two to three weeks. Robin is still running. |
Superman
queue undergoes improvements and maintenance
May 10, 2004
The "zig-zags" of the Superman:
Ultimate Flight queue line are currently being worked on as well
as the "Fastlane" queue. It is reported that shade shelters
and misting fans are being added to the queues to prepare for the
summer heat and to make the waiting experience more pleasant. It is
also reported that the fencing may be replaced by July or August but
more on this at a later time. |
Parachutes, Spaceshuttle have possible
openings this weekend
April 27, 2004
There are strong feelings going around
that both the Parachute Drop Tower and Spaceshuttle
might finally open for the first time this season on Friday or Saturday.
The two Boardwalk attractions have both been closed all season. Both
rides have a history of not opening on time. Spaceshuttle
opened late last season after remaining closed for several previous
seasons. Check the ride status this weekend to see if they are a go. |
Superman, Chiller
and other rides may not be ready for opening
April 02, 2004
According to an anonymous source two
major coasters and several other rides may not be open this weekend
for the start of the park's 30th season. Superman: Ultimate Flight
is having troubles with its two trains. Also, there is a surprising
report that Batman & Robin: The Chiller will not even
open until mid-season. Space Shuttle, Topspin, and
Parachute Drop Tower also are not expected to be ready for
this weekend. The rides will service their first guests tonight for
Season Pass holders at "Coasters After Dark" from 5-10 PM. |
Park Update
March 29, 2004
Thought I would share the latest news
and rumors about the park that I've recently heard. The Batman
side of Chiller was testing on Sunday, but the Robin
cars were still in the parking lot. It appears that Robin
definitely won't be ready for opening day. Superman and Medusa
were also testing. Speaking of Superman, it is reported that
only one train will be running for Friday. Also, work on the gift
shop at the ride's exit is coming along nicely. Work is being done
on the second train. Most of Movietown has been repaved with asphault
as has most of Boardwalk. Things should look much cleaner come Friday.
Turbo Bungy, which was located by Jumpin' Jack Flash
has been moved next to ErUPtion, so there is a clear walkway
from the Carousel to Frontier Adventures. The 4-D components
of the new SpongeBob attraction have been installed, mostly
bubble machines. The attraction should be set to open on Saturday.
Construction of new pavilions in the Garen of Eatin' continues.
Also, the toll booths at the entrance to the parking lot have been
repainted from white to a crisp dark blue. Alcatraz: The Ride
is back and will have three simulator stations inside the "bubble".
The entrance is located right next to Space Shuttle. Finally,
there are some rumors floating around about a new coaster for next
season. This buzz has even elevated to managers, so this seems pretty
big. Word has it that the much needed new wooden coaster is a go for
next season, but there is also a rumor that the park has a 4 coaster
deal with B&M for every other year (Medusa, Nitro,
Superman), which would make a new coaster next year our fifth
B&M creation. |
Park Update
March 25, 2004
Here are some odds and ends that have
already been announced on Screamscape.
It is speculated that Alcatraz: The Ride, the I2Star simulator
that appeared at Fright Fest a few years ago will finally be given
a home in the Superman bubble. This will go along with the
new gift shop at the coaster's exit. All the parachutes are expected
to be running on the Parachute Drop and some of the special
effects are set to return on Chiller. This includes strobe
lights, mist, queue music and refurbished sets. The park seems to
finally be doing what everyone has asked for...restore things to their
great quality. Pendulum and Jumpin' Jack Flash have
been removed, so that should open up the midway in Fantasy Forest/Boardwalk.
All in all, while it doesn't seem to be a big season in terms of new
attractions...it should be quite an improvement! |
Chiller information and other park updates
March 23, 2004
Just wanted to cover a few odds and
ends as we are now 11 days from the start of the new season. The Robin
side of Batman & Robin: The Chiller will not be ready
for opening day. Batman is already on the track but the cars
for Robin are in pieces in the employee parking lot. It is
confirmed that both sides will be operational for the 2004 season,
but only Batman will run at the start. No word on when exactly
Robin will be ready to run. Also, it has never been reported
as official news, so I just want to officially state that The
Right Stuff will be replaced by SpongeBob SquarePants 3-D,
the show that currently runs at Paramount Parks. Also, the Batman
Stunt Show Arena will house a new show featuring Catwoman starting
Memorial Day weekend. |
Batman's new paint job and other loose
ends [PU]
March 22, 2004
Thanks to some sources that attended
the employee picnic on Saturday, we have some great shots of Batman's
new paint job in a new Photo Update. Also included are some photos
of construction in the park as well as a shot of Robin's
trains in the employee parking lot. Also, the official slogan for
the 2004 season has been announced as "It's Playtime".
