The Joker 4D Free-Fly coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure has opened! Following a brief preview to Season Pass holders on Friday, May 27th, the ride is ready for the public.
Rising 120 feet in the air, riders sit off the side of the track, while spinning! Every seat and every ride is different, thanks to the freely spinning seats. These differing experience are a result of varying rider weight, weight distribution, and fins on the track that magnetically induce spins.
We've had the chance to ride The Joker multiple times across each seat, so here's our guide for where to sit for the craziest ride. The green side has more fins than the purple, which means more spins on green. When boarding the train in the station, you'll either sit facing the direction of Nitro, or facing Kingda Ka. Facing Nitro gets you a suprising backflip off the first drop, while facing Kingda Ka gives you a front flip. Here are our favorite seats, ranked from craziest to "not as crazy, but still pretty crazy":
- Green side, facing Nitro
- Green side, facing Kingda Ka
- Purple side, facing Kingda Ka
- Purple side, facing Nitro
We also got permission to record this awesome 360 degree POV!
Of course, photos of The Joker and media day. View our entire album here.

After a preview for Season Passholders on May 14 & 15, El Diablo has officially opened to the public on May 16th! El Diablo thrills riders begining with a gentle rock back and forth before building enough momentum to pause hanging upside-down, then make several full loops around.
The ride is a Larson 22m Giant Loop, which stands 72ft tall. It's controlled by joystick, so every ride could be slightly different!
Here's our On-Ride Reverse POV & Off-ride video!
Below are pictures of the Media Day stage, El Diablo statue, and other aspects of the ride.

Six Flags Great Adventure has announced their plans to partner with KDC Solar to construct a solar field on property via the following press release:
New Jersey’s Largest Net-Metered Solar Project
Planned for Six Flags Great Adventure
World’s Largest Theme Park Takes Giant Leap
Toward Reducing Its Carbon Footprint
JACKSON, NJ – March 26, 2015 – Six Flags Great Adventure, the world’s largest theme park, plans to take a giant step toward reducing its carbon footprint by partnering with KDC Solar LLC. Together they have introduced the state’s largest solar net metering project. KDC Solar will construct, own and operate the solar power system on Six Flags’ property.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to conservation and eco-friendly initiatives, we intend to generate clean energy,” said Park President John Fitzgerald. “Solar power will significantly reduce our reliance on harmful fossil fuels.”
KDC Solar estimates that construction will take 16 to 18 months, and that the solar facility will be operational in the second half of 2016.
As conservationists for the past 40 years, Six Flags Great Adventure has cared for more than 70 different species of animals, including some that are endangered and even extinct in the wild. The Jackson theme park recycles more than 60 percent of its annual waste, including manure, paper, plastic, wood and mixed garbage. The theme park eliminated the use of paper towels in favor of energy-efficient hand dryers, and is firmly committed to other energy-saving programs.
“We are continually searching for new ways to operate more efficiently and enhance our role as good stewards of the environment,” Fitzgerald said.
KDC Solar LLC
KDC Solar supplies commercial, industrials and governments with significantly lower long-term electric costs through solar power. KDC Solar is supported by an allocation of $225 million in equity from Diamond Castle Holdings, a New York-based private equity fund with more than $1.8 billion of committed capital under management. KDC Solar is committed to using clean solar energy to provide economic stimulus and jobs in New Jersey. It currently operates more than 50 megawatts of net-metered solar facilities at 11 different locations and is constructing and permitting 72 megawatts of solar projects at businesses and institutions throughout New Jersey. BATMAN™: The Ride becomes even more intense as it undergoes a gravity-defying role reversal from July 4th weekend to Labor Day weekend. Guests can dare to take on an all-new experience on the world-famous suspended, looping coaster when its chair lift-style train is flipped 180 degrees on the track.
BATMAN™: The Ride Backwards Fast Facts:
Soar backwards, chair-lift style (beneath the track)
Five gut-wrenching inversions guests never see coming
2,700 feet of twisted track
Since opening in 1993, BATMAN™: The Ride has given more than 27 million thrilling rides and reigns as one of the most popular roller coasters in the world.
“The ride’s intensity is ratcheted way up,” said John Fitzgerald, Six Flags Great Adventure president. “Thrill seekers will not want to miss this limited-time opportunity to put their inner ‘super hero’ to the test.”
41st Season Kicks off April 3 featuring Polar Bear Plunge, PEEPS® and Safari Babies
Six Flags Great Adventure was voted America’s second best theme park by USA TODAY readers in 2014. Its 41st season begins April 3-5 with Easter Weekend presented by PEEPS®. On Saturday, April 4, Six Flags will host a special Easter Celebration giving guests the chance to search for eggs filled with PEEPS®. The morning event will also include onsite entertainment, games and giveaways. The first 100 guests (toddlers to age 12) to arrive by 9:30 a.m. will receive a PEEPS® Egg Hunt Participant Wristband and up to three spectator wristbands for friends and family members to join in the celebration. Spring is a time for babies, and Safari’s animal experts showcase the adorable, new additions including European brown bear cubs through two popular education programs. Safari Off Road Education offers students K-6 a journey in learning with 1,200 animals from six continents in the 350-acre wildlife preserve. Biology Day targets high school students with a special focus on land and marine biology. These programs, reserved for schools, operate when the theme park is closed. Schools can contact email@example.com for more information.
El Diablo Scorches 2015 Season
Guests can feel the wrath of the devil on El Diablo, the park's 13th coaster, beginning this spring. Inspired by Jersey Devil folklore with a Mexican twist, El Diablo features riders sitting in “face-off” (face-to-face) seats rocketing forward and backward pendulum style until the train gains enough momentum to complete a full revolution seven stories in the air. The fiery red coaster then kicks into high gear, completing full revolutions until it stops momentarily with riders suspended upside down, and then reverses direction.
"El Diablo is the perfect addition to Plaza del Carnaval, as it appeals to both thrill seekers and families alike. Rides like El Toro and Tango attract a wide audience to this area, which also provides ample opportunities for dining, shopping and relaxation from the excitement of the world’s largest theme park," Fitzgerald added.
El Diablo is expected to open this May, and will have a 48 inch height requirement to ride.
New Outdoor Grill and Upgraded Cabana Cove at Hurricane Harbor
Beginning May 23, Guests can enjoy the delicious smell and taste of freshly-grilled food when Six Flags Hurricane Harbor debuts its new, outdoor grill. This open-air kitchen will feature giant turkey legs, hot dogs, hamburgers and Mexican-style steak. The park will also introduce an upgraded Cabana Cove, with new, luxury cabanas surrounded by a lush, tropical landscape.

Out of the blue, Six Flags Great Adventure has announced a change to the location, theme, and name of the new ride addition for 2015. The ride will be now be known as El Diablo and be located in the spot of Rolling Thunder's station in the Plaza Del Carnaval section of the park.
The ride was previously slated to be built near Splashwater Oasis in the Golden Kingdom with an asian theme and name, Looping Dragon. The ride is a Larson 22m Giant Loop, the taller and permanent version of the popular "Ring-of-Fire" fair-ride. Larson's decision to label the ride as a "compact roller coaster" has caused Six Flags to also label Looping Dragon and the other new Giant Loops as roller coasters, despite feedback from enthusiasts.
The video and following images have both been released by Six Flags Great Adventure.
